Parents Support  Group

 

The next support group meeting is on Wednesday 14th December from 11.00am to 13.00pm. All welcome. Please, if possible ring in advance, if attending. 

 

Christmas Holidays

 

The Dόchas office will close on Thursday 22nd December and reopen Tuesday 3rd January. We would like to wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

 

 Bowling

 

Bowling will take place on Sunday 4th December at Funword Ennis Road at 11am. Cost €5. If you wish to attend please call or text Alan on 086 0491934 as lanes will have to be booked.

 

 Fundraising Event

 

There will be a variety show on Friday 9th December at the  Friarsgate Theatre, Kilmallock. Show starts at 8pm and tickets are priced from €12 to €15. This promises to be a great nights entertainment and we would appreciate your support on the night. Thanks to Michael Noonan for donating a coffee maker machine and Eileen Meaney who donated a silver wine opener set as spot prizes on the night.

 

Christmas Cards

 

Beautiful Irish made Christmas Cards available from the office and various outlets around the city and county.  They retail at just €3 per pack of 10.  All proceeds go towards the running of the group.

Dóchas Cinema Club

Special Needs Parents– Mid West Branch

The inaugural meeting of the Mid West branch of the Special Needs Parents Association took place on Thursday 20th May.   Groups that were represented at the meeting were Clare Federation for People with Special Needs and ConnectAbilities as well as the following Limerick-based groups: Dóchas, Ichthyosis in Ireland, Limerick Dyspraxia/DCD Group and ADD Mid-West.                
The main points discussed were the role of the Special needs Parents Association as well as recent meetings with Ministers.  The floor was opened up to questions and there were many especially around SNA provision, SENOs, lack of communication to parents, Domiciliary Care problems, Pre-School issues, staying on in school after 18 years, IEPs, OT, Assistive Technology, the Contemporary living Pilot third level course in Mary I and the IRIS project (Inclusive Research into Irish Schools) run by six professionals under the NCSA.                            
The Special Needs Parents will also be hosting a stand at the Special Olympics. Further meetings will be scheduled and we will inform you of same.

Donations
We wish to thank our members and supporters for their generous donations and support of Great Limerick
Run and Mountain Climb.  If you have a sponsorship card out, please return to us asap so that we can get an accurate picture of funds raised. We also wish to thanks all those who ran on the day.

Happy Birthday Annette
We wish to thank most sincerely Annette Howes who recently had a 40th birthday party but instead of receiving presents asked guests to make a doantion to Dóchas.  A total of €705 was raised. Thansk you so much for your generosity Annette and of course Happy Birthday!

JP McManus Caps

The JP McManus Invitational Pro-Am takes place on 5th and 6th July at Adare Manor and Golf Resort. We will be recipients of some money from this Pro-Am. The only way to gain entrance to this event is via a special Cap. The caps retail at €50 each and we have a number of hats to sell. Under 16’s gain free admission on both days. They would make a lovely birthday or Fathers Day Present.                                

All funds raised go towards local charities like ourselves.


Red House Open Day
Red House Respite centre is having an open day on 27th June, from 2pm to 5pm  and all are welcome. There will be a BBQ, cake sale, arts & craft sale and much more. A behaviour therapist will be available to offer information. It is hoped that members of the Munster Team and Limerick Live 95fm will be present .

Special Olympics Irish Games
The Special Olympics irish Games take place in Limerick at the UL Arena from Wednesday 9th June to Sunday 13th June 2010. The opening ceremony takes place in Thomond Park on the Wednesday evening and the theme of the games is Hand in Hand - Reflecting the true vision of Special Olympics, that of people joining together to make the extraordinary happen. Over 1900 athletes from around the country will participate in the games supported by 650 coaches and delegates, 5000 family members and friends as well as 3500 volunteers.
Dóchas will be hosting an information stand for the duration of the games and we are looking for volunteers to man the stand.

Parent Support Group Meeting
The next parent support group meeting takes place on Wednesday 9th June at 11am at the office. All are welcome.


IAA Marathon Event
From 2nd July to 2nd August, two men will be underrtaking a unique challenge; Gerry Duffy and Ken Whitelaw will be running 32 marathons across the 32 counties, a marathon a day to raise funds for the IAA. The IAA hope to have 32 runners from each county to run and support the lads on the day. Each runner will be asked to raise €1000 if running the full marathon and 600 if running the half marathon.  To find out more about the event please visit www.32marathons.com.
