Citizens Information Act 2007

The Citizens Information Act 2007 amends The Comhairle Act 2000.  The Personal Advocacy Service planned as part of this Act was deferred indefinitely in July 2008.

Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs Act 2004

In October, 2008, the full roll-out of this Act was deferred indefinitely. The Act entitles people with special educational needs to a full Assessment of Needs which would ensure access to an appropriate education.

UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

This is a 31-page document which sets out to " promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity."  Ireland signed the Convention in 2007, but has not yet ratified it, i.e. Ireland has not yet agreed to implement its provisions.

There are 50 Articles in the Convention which include the following:

Article 24: Education
